But let me start by explaining why Ypres is Belgium's Most Hospitable City 2021. This is a title that the digital travel platform booking.com awards annually. For the title, the site looks at all reviews for the accommodation in Ypres. And they are all exceptionally good!
Although Back2Front is not located in the centre of Ypres, our B&B is considered as one of the top hotels in Ypres. The reactions on booking.com don't lie. With an overall score of 9.3, our B&B is highly recommended by guests who have already stayed here. I am therefore enormously proud and especially grateful for the many fine reviews. It is great to read that our hard work is appreciated!
What does hospitality mean to me?
I would like to start by thanking the City of Ypres for asking for my definition of hospitality . It is an honour to be seen as an ambassador for our town. It is a title that I wear with great pride.
But what does hospitality mean to me? This is what I told the City of Ypres:
Every Sunday morning, I bake a fresh apple pie for my guests. I like it a lot myself and my guests can also 'taste' this little extra. During my guests' stay, I also give them the best tips for their holiday.
I ask about their interests during breakfast and then adapt my tips to their wishes and available time. Is it about the First World War, the Middle Ages, cycling, walking or something else... I have a suitable offer for every type of visitor. I often send these tips via the smartphone, so that we also save extra paper and are a bit more aware of our nature.
What I also like is to refer my guests to locals. This is not just about places to shop or eat, but also places where extraordinary encounters can take place. I love hearing the stories from my guests afterwards.
